Main Purpose of Job

The MCSS is a small independent unit of government that provides grant funding, training, and other resources to support schools throughout Maryland. Our Agency Mission is to promote and enhance safer school communities and this position provides strategic direction, oversight, and execution of the Communication and Engagement Program through planning, directing, managing, evaluating, and administering all aspects of the MCSS's communication and engagement programs. These programs include: communications (including digital media engagement, website development, public messaging, and social/news/mass media), school safety programs and projects, school safety tip line, and formal and informal stakeholder engagement initiatives.

POSITION DUTIES

The Communication and Engagement Manager is responsible for managing and integrating broad, comprehensive marketing, public relations, communications, and stakeholder engagement programs and strategies for the MCSS; responds to stakeholders and effectively promote MCSS programs;  provides expert advice to the Executive Director regarding marketing, advertising, community outreach and engagement with key stakeholders.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.

 

EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of professional experience managing personnel and programs. Leadership role in government or private sector communications, including substantial media relations and social media experience.  Bilingual skills preferred. 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge in the areas of stakeholder and media engagement, social media administration, and public relations
  • Skill in professional communication (verbal and written), management, supervision, and leadership; skill in formal presentation (development and delivery) and planning
  • Ability to handle multiple projects concurrently, work collaboratively and communicate effectively with internal and external individuals at varying levels
  • Ability to work directly on certain initiatives and delegate effectively while managing multiple initiatives simultaneously
  • Ability to motivate and manage a team of skilled professionals and coordinate successful projects and programs internally
  • Bilingual skills preferred
