LOCATION OF POSITION

This is a statewide recruitment. Please select all of the counties in which you are willing to work. Current openings are available in Howard County (Jessup) and Washington County (Hagerstown).

POSITION DUTIES

The main purpose of this position is to deliver products produced by Maryland Correctional Enterprises to customers throughout the State of Maryland while providing training and supervision to an inmate workforce.

This position is responsible for the pickup, installation and delivery of Maryland Correctional Enterprises’ products statewide. In addition, this position will be responsible for providing supervision to an inmate work crew while delivering and installing products. Overnight travel is not required for this position.   

The MCE Officer Trainee – Auto Services will be required to:  
  • Operate all vehicles, including Class A vehicles, in accordance with OSHA (Occupational and Safety Health Act) and DOT (Department of Transportation) requirements as well as all local, state and federal laws.
  • Perform pre- and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicle. 
  • Attend and participate in regularly scheduled training. 
  • Appropriately and effectively handle customer complaints and concerns. 
  • Follow route assignments as directed by the Warehouse Management.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: One year of experience in automotive services

Notes:
1. Specific educational requirements and other selection standards are set by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission in accordance with Correctional Services Article, Section 8-209 of the Annotated Code and are listed in the Code of Maryland Regulations Title 12, Subtitle 10, Chapter 01.

2. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

The following qualifications are required, in addition to the minimum qualifications:

Education:  Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate

Experience:  At least one year of commercial driving experience

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Possession of a Class A Commercial Driver's License is required.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Selected candidates must successfully complete a background investigation. Employees who have not already done so must complete and successfully pass the Entrance Level Correctional Training Course required for the Maryland Correctional Training Commission certificate during the probationary period.
