Main Purpose of Job

The Attorney General's Office is seeking candidates for a Legal Secretary in the Maryland Department of State Police. Position is located at Maryland State Police Headquarters, 1201 Reisterstown Road, Pikesville, MD.

POSITION DUTIES

Position supports a unit of 6 Assistant Attorneys General, including a Principal and Deputy Counsel. Position responsibilities include typing legal documents and correspondence, receiving and screening telephone calls; interacting with various State agencies and state and federal courts; maintaining litigation and subject files; photocopying documents; receiving, logging and distributing incoming mail; and generally assisting with the office administration of the unit.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate. One year of experience as a legal secretary to include keyboarding legal briefs, pleadings, affidavits, subpoenas and other legal documents; maintaining case files, schedules and logs and verifying legal citations and references.  Additional secretarial or other clerical experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Legalman classifications or Paralegal specialty codes in the administrative support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
