Introduction
The Maryland Department of Commerce is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Senior Business Development Representative (Industrial Development Representative) within its Division of Business and Industry Sector Development’s Regional Growth and Retention Business Unit.
This is a Special Appointment position, and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.

POSITION DUTIES
The incumbent will actively market and promote the region’s unique assets providing economic development assistance to businesses, Counties, or economic development organizations. Individuals will be providing financial, regulatory and technical assistance to businesses in cooperation with the county government providing consultative services to businesses as to availability of financing, and providing site location assistance to new and expanding businesses. Other duties include assisting in the development of regional strategic economic development plans; and working closely with and maintaining relationships with high level public and private sector officials, county economic development officials, local elected officials, economic development directors, State and Federal agencies, businesses and lending institutions.
The selected employee will possess excellent interpersonal skills to work with high level public and private sector officials and maintain effective working relationships; excellent written and oral communication skills; the ability to handle multiple, concurrent and high priority projects; and familiarity with leadership and key staff at relevant federal agencies, with university faculty, labs and incubators. Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite for Windows including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint, Google Mail and/or other relevant software. Some statewide travel is required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Real Estate/Land Use, or a related field
AND
Experience: Six (6) years of recent professional experience in industrial, business or economic development, marketing, commercial real estate or related field.
Equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications: Local economic and business development experience within Baltimore City is highly desirable. Demonstrated sales experience preferred. Preference will be given to candidates possessing the designation Certified Economic Developer by the International Economic Development Council.
