Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to provide psychological services in a maximum-security forensic hospital, the Clifton T. Perkins Hospital Center. This includes treatment of patients and assessment of patients, to include the use of psychological tests and related procedures. Individuals hospitalized include persons charged with serious violent felonies (e.g., murder, arson, sexual offenses, etc.) and patients referred from prisons, detention centers, courts, and other mental health facilities not able to effectively treat them due to the level of violence, behavioral disturbance, or risk of escape. This position also involves providing forensic psychological evaluations of outpatient pretrial defendants charged with serious violent felonies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a doctoral degree in psychology as defined by the Annotated Code of Maryland, Health Occupations, 18-101 (g).

Experience: One year of supervised experience rendering direct psychological services, providing psychological assessments, and evaluating the delivery of psychological services.

Note: A twelve month full-time or twenty-four month half-time internship in rendering psychological services may be substituted for the required year of experience, provided that the internship is a requirement for the doctoral degree in Psychology.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

In accordance with the Annotated Code of Maryland, Health Occupations, 18-301 (b4), the Psychology Associate, Doctorate Perkins is required at the time of hire to apply jointly with the supervising Psychologist to the State Board of Examiners of Psychologists for an exemption from licensure. The exemption must be received within six months of submitting the application.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Candidates may be given a medical examination to determine their ability to perform job related functions.

2. The employee must become licensed as a psychologist by the Maryland Board of Examiners of Psychologists within three years of appointment to a position in the Psychology Associate, Doctorate Perkins classification.

For education obtained outside the U.S., any job offer will be contingent on the candidate providing an evaluation for equivalency by a foreign credential evaluation service prior to starting employment (and may be required prior to interview).
