REGULATORY AND COMPLIANCE ENGINEER/ARCHITECT I

The Water and Science Administration, Water Supply Program, Safe Drinking Water Act Implementation Division is recruiting for a Regulatory Compliance Engineer I. This is a position specific recruitment for the Maryland Department of the Environment.  This recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies for this position/function only.  The resulting cert list will be maintained for one year.  Persons interested in future vacancies within this classification must re-apply.  

This is an entry level position; therefore, the selected candidate will be offered the base salary.  Progression in the current position will be based upon the approval of annual increments and/or cost of living adjustments.

The main purpose of this position is to support the State’s Lead in Drinking Water in Schools Program. This position will evaluate lead test results from public and non-public schools, and provide technical assistance to implement remediation and other follow-up actions. The incumbent of this position will review and track monitoring reports, and provide technical assistance. On-site inspections may be required to review operations and/or remedial measures. This position will evaluate remediation plans and provide training to school and laboratory personnel.

The incumbent will be required to maintain a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland with 5 or less points on their driving record.  

Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering or architecture from an accredited college or university.

Experience: None

Notes:

1. A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with at least 20 credits in engineering and two years performing engineering or architectural work in pollution control, waste remediation, resource conservation, environmental protection, public health and safety, or related areas may be substituted for the engineering degree.

 2. Professional Engineer or Professional Architect registration in the State of Maryland or in a state with comparable requirements may be substituted for the education requirement.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Engineering and Architecture classifications or Engineering and Architecture specialty codes in the Environmental field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

It is preferred that the selected candidate has the following:

• Good organizational skills;
• Strong attention to detail;
• Knowledge of the Safe Drinking Water Act;
• Knowledge of drinking water treatment;
• Familiar working with a database management system; and
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
