LOCATION OF POSITION

Main Purpose of Job

This accountant works on the Retirement Processing team of the Benefits Processing Unit. Specifically, this position works on the team that revises retiree accounts to ensure that they are paid the correct monthly retirement allowance. Retiree accounts may need to be revised for various reasons, including: new information regarding salaries and service provided after retirement, a change of the retiree’s beneficiary after retirement, the death of a retiree’s beneficiary after retirement, a change in the type of retirement for the retiree, etc. Revisions require the understanding of benefit calculations to determine the expected changes to the retirees’ monthly allowance, the preparation of the correct transactions to effect the changes, and producing professional and accurate communications to the retirees to inform them of the changes. This position requires someone with strong math skills, strong attention to detail, and a desire to provide excellent service to our customers by timely and accurately revising their retirement allowances. The environment is fast paced with monthly deadlines and can be stressful. This is not a typical accountant role where the incumbent will be doing debits and credits or working on financial statements or tax issues. It is a challenging role which will expose the incumbent to the field of defined benefit plans.
