The Office of the Public Defender is seeking detail-oriented applicants with experience in account reconciliations, accounts receivable and accounts payable processing to fill a full-time Fiscal Accounts Technician I position in its Fiscal Group located in Baltimore City.  The Fiscal Accounts Technician will be an important member of the Fiscal Team supporting processing, analysis and reporting in a high-volume transaction environment.

POSITION DUTIES

A Fiscal Accounts Technician I is the intermediate level of work reconciling agency accounting systems to fiscal control systems or developing automated spreadsheets, ledgers and reports or identifying budget trends and recommending budget realignments. Employees in this classification do not supervise other Fiscal Accounts Technicians or Fiscal Accounts Clerks. Employees in this classification receive moderate supervision from a Fiscal Accounts Technician Supervisor, a professional accountant or other designated administrator.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Three years of experience reviewing, verifying, recording, adjusting and balancing financial transactions.

Notes:

1. Experience calculating and recording financial, statistical or other numerical data may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required high school education.

2. Six credit hours in accounting from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience in Financial Clerical/Finance Technicians classifications or specialty codes in the financial field of work at a rate of one year of military experience for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience auditing invoices and/or processing experience in reports

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite Experience with the State of Maryland's Financial Management Information System (FMIS) processing transactions in RStars & ADPICS

Experience performing banking functions such as preparing deposits and/or reconciling bank accounts

Experience handling internal and external customers

SELECTION PROCESS

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be admitted to the examination for this classification.  Successful candidates will be ranked as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED, OR QUALIFIED and placed on the employment (eligible) list for at least one year.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training and experience related to the requirements of the position.  You may be required to complete a qualifications supplement, or the rating may be based on your application.  Therefore, it is important that you provide complete and accurate information on your application.  Report all experience and education that is related to this position.
