Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is perform the advanced level fingerprint work to examine, classify, identify and render the final verification decision at the 1st and 2nd stage fingerprint matching process in the Maryland Automated Fingerprint Identification System ( MAFIS under general supervision to determine the accurate release of Criminal History Record Information. Additional responsibilities include texting demographic data from a card scan device (paper card submissions) to an electronic format and determining if print quality is acceptable for processing through the State MAFIS. In the absence of the Fingerprint Supervisor, this position is designated as the Point Of Contact for the Fingerprint Unit. This position supports a compressed work schedule 10.5 hours per day, 24 x 7 x 365 for mission critical operation with designated shift duty responsible for processing criminal identifications for Local Law Enforcements and Arrest Booking Sites for Criminal Justice and Non-Criminal Justice purposes.

POSITION DUTIES

Some of the duties for this position include:    Performs advanced level fingerprint work by examining, classifying, and performing the 1st stage fingerprint matching verification process in the MAFIS Database and make the final decision at the 2nd stage Quality Assurance fingerprint verification under General Supervision. Use multiple database systems associated with the State MAFIS to monitor, track, research and process fingerprint submissions providing timely identification responses and notifications to system end users. Perform Text Data Entry on submitted fingerprint cards and determine if print quality is acceptable for identification processing through the MAFIS database. In the absence of supervisory staff, serve as the lead worker and the designated Point Of Contact for the Fingerprint Unit. Monitor Network Livescan Sites responsible for transmitting electronic submissions to the State Repository for accurate, complete, and timely criminal history background checks.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years of experience examining, classifying and identifying fingerprints.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in fingerprint identification classification or fingerprint identification specialty codes in the fingerprint identification field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will possess the following:    Knowledge of automated fingerprinting techniques and systems such as the Criminal Justice Information System(CJIS) central repository or ther Maryland Automated Fingerprint Identification System (MAFIS).

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Candidates for this classification are subject to a criminal records check before a permanent appointment can be made. A criminal conviction record may be grounds for rejection of the applicant by the hiring agency.

2. Employees in this classification are subject to call-in 24 hours a day and, therefore, must provide a telephone number where they can be reached.
