Main Purpose of Job

This position will support the Division of Nursing Services' policy, compliance, preauthorization, utilization control and enforcement of State and federal Medicaid regulations. This position will plan the division's activities related to the collection and analysis of data from their performance of onsite and desk audits as well as medical reviews. This position will also perform policy, compliance, preauthorization, utilization control and quality assurance activities for various Medical Assistance programs. Services are approved and monitored to ensure quality of care, appropriateness, medical necessity, utilization control and proper enforcement of State and federal Medicaid regulations. The programs for which DONS is responsible represent a portion of the broad range of health care services provided to Maryland's Medicaid recipients and relate to the mission of Maryland Department of Health in helping to protect and promote the health of Maryland residents by providing access to these services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Master’s degree in Nursing or a health-related field from an accredited college or university.

Experience:Five years of experiences as a Registered Nurse including two years of experience in an administrative, supervisory, consultative or teaching capacity.

Notes:1. A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or health-related field from an accredited college or university and two years of experience as a Registered Nurse in an administrative, supervisory, consultative or teaching capacity may be substituted for the required education.

2. A PhD in Nursing from an accredited college or university may be substituted for two years of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a commissioned officer in Nursing classification or Nursing specialty codes in the Nursing field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should have:

- experience as a nurse leader or administrator

- experience in at least two of the following areas: nursing education/training, medically fragile population or familiarity with appeal/hearing process

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1.Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.

2.Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
