DJS collaborates with youth, families, schools, community partners, law enforcement, and other public agencies to coordinate services and resources to contribute to safer communities.

Main Purpose of Job

A Nurse Practitioner/Midwife I is a clinical supervisory position responsible for the supervision of the health center program and functions as a nurse practitioner to identify and address health concerns through the practice, planning, coordinating, and supervision of the health care services of the health center. This position maintains operational efficiency according to DJS policies, procedures and protocols.

POSITION DUTIES

Oversees the daily flow of patient care services provided by subordinate nursing and support staff.

Performs history and physical exams of adolescent youth admitted to a DJS facility.

Review vaccination records; order and administer appropriate vaccinations. 

Participate in peer reviews, site health record Quality Assurance reviews, and internal compliance audits in conjunction with the Regional Nurse Manager and the Health Administrator.

Enter and maintain current health related information in ASSIST, IMMUNET, METS. 

Assist the Health Administrator, Medical Director and agency with special projects and/ or DJS health initiatives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by Maryland State Board of Examiners of Nurses under the certification requirements for Nurse Practitioner or Nurse-Midwife.

Experience: None

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Current Nurse Practitioner certification (Pediatrics or Family)

CPR certification.

Two years’ experience as a certified nurse practitioner in pediatrics or adolescent health.

One year of clinical supervision or management experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current certificate as a Nurse Practitioner or as a Nurse Midwife from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

If practicing on a Multi-State Compact Registered Nurse License, the candidate must obtain an advanced practice certification issued by the Maryland State Board of Nursing.
