Introduction

This recruitment is for three positions.  Each position will serve as the Communications Content Manager in one of the following administrations of the Maryland Department of Health: Developmental Disabilities Administration, Medicaid Administration, and Public Health Administration.

Main Purpose of Job

This position will serve as the Communications Content Manager in one of three divisions of the Maryland Department of Health.  These divisions are Developmental Disabilities Administration, Medicaid Administration and Public Health Administration.  

The main purpose of this position is to manage and create multi-strategy content to raise awareness of priorities, initiatives and policies, and provide essential information and resources to the target audiences. The Content Manager will create quality content for social media channels, Web pages, campaigns, events and newsletters, as well as draft press releases, facilitate responses to media inquires and provide a strong connection between the corresponding administration and the Office of Communications.  The individual will also ensure the integrity of the Department's brand throughout all corresponding administration materials.

This position will also work closely with other administration-specific content managers to provide additional support as needed on campaigns, media inquires, events, etc.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Five years of experience in administrative staff or professional work. One year of this experience must have involved one or more of the following: the supervision of other employees, overseeing and coordinating the general operations of a unit, applying rules and regulations, or exercising responsibility for the development of policies or procedures.

Notes:

1. Additional experience in administrative staff or professional work may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university may be substituted at the rate of 30 semester credit hours on a year-for-year basis for the required general experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified candidates must possess two years of professional communications content experience.   This experience must involve the writing and development of content.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred candidates should possess:

  • Experience writing press releases, media advisories, newsletter content, social media posts and website content, with the ability to interpret complicated policy and technical information for a general audience.
  • Experience planning press conferences and special events.
  • Attention to detail and strong follow-up skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team, as well as complete tasks independently.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
