Wireless Communications Operations Manager

Introduction

This is a position specific recruitment for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Information Technology Service. This recruitment will be used to fill current vacancies for the position and may be used to fill future vacancies in the same classification/function. Future vacancies may also be filled via other recruitments. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year.

LOCATION OF POSITION

Work location to be determined. Candidates must be willing to travel and be available for work in any part of the State. Please indicate on your application all counties where you are willing to accept employment.

Main Purpose of Job

This position is the implementation arm of the department's two-way radio division. It manages all aspects of the day-to-day technical field supervisory staff responsible to maintain and upgrade DNR's statewide public safety radio communication networks. The position develops Motorola programming templates in accordance with direction from management, programs subscriber radios, updates firmware Updates, maintains radio management software as well as the state's 700 MHZ system manager database, and maintains the Wireless Communications Division access database. This position also services, tests and aligns Motorola APX two way radio subscriber units and serves as Assistant to the Director for daily operations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Four years of experience in administrative staff or professional work.

Notes:

1. Additional experience in administrative staff or professional work may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university may be substituted at the rate of 30 semester credit hours on a year-for-year basis for the required general experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet the minimum and selective qualifications to be considered. Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

One year of experience in programming Motorola APX radios, servicing microwave radios.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience programming radios and troubleshooting radio towers
Experience installing radio equipment on vehicles and boats or tower sites
Experience working with public safety personnel (Fire, EMS or Law Enforcement)
Experience working on Microwave radio links
Experience supervising employees, overseeing and coordinating wireless communications operations

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
