Main Purpose of Job

The Maryland Park Service is currently recruiting for multiple seasonal contractual positions at Fair Hill NRMA in Elkton, Maryland and Bohemia River State Park in Chesapeake City, Maryland. You must indicate on the Supplemental Questionnaire the position(s) of interest in order to be considered for this recruitment. Please review the main purpose of each job closely before applying.

PARK RANGER
Fair Hill NRMA (6 vacancies)
Bohemia River (4 vacancies)
A Seasonal Park Ranger is a temporary, introductory level of work in the operation of a State park. Work is performed indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions. Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as scheduled. Duties may vary for each facility and generally include, but are not limited to:
• Provide visitors with park information and implement rules and regulations
• General maintenance of park trails, day use areas, public facilities, staff buildings and DNR vehicles and vessels
• Perform park improvement projects, including the implementation of natural resource management best practices and environmental conservation efforts
• Perform park and facility opening and closing duties
• Monitor and cleaning of campgrounds, bath houses, and restrooms
• Monitor recreational activities in the park, including but not limited to special events, horse-back riding, mountain biking, hiking, hunting, fishing, etc.
• Develop and present interpretive and environmental education programs
• Assist with volunteer and youth programs
• Register campers

PARK MAINTENANCE WORKER
Fair Hill NRMA (10 vacancies)
Bohemia River (4 vacancies)
The Seasonal Park Maintenance position is responsible for the maintenance of grounds, facilities and equipment in a park or recreation area. Work is performed indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions. Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as scheduled. Duties may vary for each facility and generally include, but are not limited to:
• Maintenance and upkeep of park facilities, buildings, grounds, roadways, and trails
• Upkeep of vehicles, equipment and vessels
• Mowing and trimming grass within developed areas
• Clean restrooms, shelters, and campsites
• Refill bathroom supplies
• Removal of litter
• Painting, electric, carpentry and plumbing work
• Use of hand tools, power tools, and motorized vehicles and equipment is required

TRAIL TECHNICIAN (4 vacancies)
The Trail Technician is responsible for the maintenance and construction associated with a large trail network within a State Park. Work is performed indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions. Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as scheduled. Duties may vary for each facility and generally include, but are not limited to:
• Perform trail maintenance and construction
• Mow and trim grass and vegetation along park trails
• Clear downed trees off park trails
• Construct and repair trail bridges, as needed
• Coordinate and lead monthly-volunteer trail work days
• Use of hand tools, power tools, and motorized vehicles and equipment is required
• Hike trails of varying difficulty
• Applicants must be able to lift 50 lbs.

CONTACT STATION ATTENDANT/CAMPER CONTACT ATTENDANT (PART-TIME)
Fair Hill NRMA (2 vacancies)
Bohemia River State Park (2 vacancies)
The Contact Station Attendant / Camper Contact Attendant is responsible for welcoming visitors to the park, collecting various service charges and/or registering campers. Work is performed indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions. Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as scheduled. Duties may vary for each facility and generally include, but are not limited to:
• Provide information to park visitors and campers
• Handle money and provide change
• Register campers
• Operate a computer reservation system
• Assist with facility upkeep and maintenance

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: None. 
Experience: None.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
