Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to provide support to JPPM programs by recruiting, scheduling, and supervising volunteers, updating online publications, managing social media accounts, and managing website and online databases. The Outreach Coordinator will provide visitor services to onsite guests and respond to offsite inquiries related to the Park & Museum operations and activities. This position will provide outreach services at various community functions.

POSITION DUTIES

Recruiting volunteers for various tasks, programs, and events at JPPM, chiefly by working with community organizations;

Developing and managing volunteer policies, procedures, and standards for volunteer service;

Conducting and arranging for volunteer orientation, training, and recognition;

Scheduling all volunteer activity, including docent tours;

Acting as a single point of contact for communications between volunteers and JPPM staff;

Editing and updating the JPPM website and calendar of events;

Editing and updating the Diagnostic Artifacts of Maryland webpage hosted by the MAC Lab;

Editing and updating other web based archaeological databases associated with MAC Lab projects;

Enhancing JPPM’s online presence by actively posting to and monitoring Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts;

Working with JPPM staff including the Education Department, MAC Lab, and Marketing

Coordinator to post interpretive content and images appropriate for sharing with the public;

Notifying the public of all events and programs through social media outlets;

Attending community fairs, festivals, and open house events to promote JPPM programs and visitation and to build the volunteer base and partnerships;

Printing and distributing flyers, signs, and promotional materials to the public;

Building relationships with local organizations such as neighboring parks and museums;

Providing staff coverage at JPPM’s Visitor Center, Museum Shop, MAC Lab tours, Park events, and educational programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of 60 credit hours at an accredited college or university

Experience: One year of experience in administrative or professional work

Notes: 1. Candidates may substitute experience as defined above for the required education at the rate of one year of experience for 30 credit hours, for up to 60 credit hours of required education.

2. Candidates may substitute 90 credit hours at an accredited college or university for the required education and experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The following work experience is preferred:

 

- Public relations work and/or working with community organizations

- Editing and updating websites and social media accounts

- Scheduling/coordinating volunteer & staff activities

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
