This recruitment is being conducted to fill a vacancy at the Washington County Department of Social Services in Hagerstown, MD, located in Western Maryland 75 miles west and north of the Baltimore and Washington areas.

POSITION DUTIES

The primary function of this position is to provide clerical support, to include answering phones, taking messages, greeting, directing and providing information on services to Washington County DSS clients. Data entry of case information, opening, sorting, scanning mail and assignment of cases ready for the determination of technical and financial eligibly for Family Investment Administration programs in accordance with Federal, State and local regulations.

This position interviews, screens, reviews, verifies and interprets information in records, applications and other documents by using knowledge of agency policies and procedure to determine if appropriate procedures have been followed and to resolve problems. Reviews, processed, initiates, scans and/or assigns correspondence, including applications, interim changes and redeterminations sent to FIA. Answers phones, responds to inquiries, schedules appointments, take reported changes, community complaints and other messages from internal and external customers using appropriate resources include Language Line and TTY. Assembles and verifies data and compiles information in order to prepare application and redetermination packets. Performs customer service and reception duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

EXPERIENCE: Two years of experience performing clerical duties. (Please list specific job duties relating to this experience on your application.)

NOTES:

1. Additional experience performing clerical duties may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

 2. Applicants may substitute education from an accredited college or university at the rate of thirty semester credit hours for one year of experience on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

 3. Six months clerical training with three courses in subjects such as keyboarding, clerical math, word processing, spreadsheets, database, graphics presentation, proofreading, or office etiquette may be substituted for six months of the requires experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administrative classifications or in Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Clerical Support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

Six months of experience using Google G-mail email software

Six months of experience using Microsoft Word

One year of experience displaying excellent customer service skills.

One year of experience greeting and directing customers, sending correspondence and explaining information.

Must be willing to accept employment in Washington County, Maryland.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training, and experience as presented on your application and as they relate to the requirements of the position.

For education obtained outside the U.S., a copy of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service is required prior to hire.
