MDH/Cecil County Health Department, Alcohol and Drug Recovery Center, Elkton, Maryland

POSITION DUTIES

This position, as a representative and employee of the Alcohol and Drug Recovery Center, will perform typical clerical duties, including responding to telephone calls; assisting visitors at the reception window; filing; photocopying; sorting mail and other material; and, processing routine statistical information. This position will also collect and communicate data regarding insurance company authorizations for clinical services, as well as track the authorized number of outpatient visits, treatment authorization expirations, and dates for treatment plan submissions and related insurance company case reviews.

This position will interact in a professional manner with counselors, administrative staff members, various insurance company representatives, patients, and patients' family members. This position may also assist in the collection of consumer hair, saliva and/or urine for alcohol and drug screen testing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of the eighth grade.

Experience: Six months of experience performing clerical duties in an office environment.

Notes: 

1. Additional experience performing clerical duties may be substituted, on a year-for-year basis, for the required education.

2. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate may be substituted for the required experience.

3. Six months of clerical training, with three courses in subjects, such as keyboarding, clerical math, word processing, spreadsheets, database, graphics presentation, proofreading, or office etiquette may be substituted for the required experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a Non-Commissioned Officer in Administration classifications or Administrative, Clerical or Office Services specialty codes in the Clerical Support field of work, on a year-for year basis, for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should have experience providing administrative support for managerial-level staff, as well as experience maintaining records and handling confidential documents and/or reports. He/she should also have experience working with officials, the public and community agencies. 

Finally, the desired candidate should have experience using Microsoft Office programs to draft correspondence, data entry and/or reports.
