Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to provide clerical support for Environmental Health professional staff utilizing multiple software platforms and complex scanning hardware. This position will provide general clerical support for various Environmental Health programs such as scanning, electronic file retrieval, data entry for report generating, typing and receipt monies collected for services provided. This position also provides clerical support to the Water Unit by providing data entry of well permit applications, water sample results, receipt of monies, issuing permit numbers and preparing water letters for signature. This position will: log and track all animal bites for case management; liaise with contractors/public and provide clerical support for soils evaluation staff; receive, track an forward daycare applications to appropriate staff for review; and, address customer services needs by responding to inquiries and taking complaints and referring them to the appropriate staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of the eighth grade.

Experience: Six months experience performing clerical duties in an office environment.

Notes:

1. Additional experience performing clerical duties may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate may be substituted for the required experience.

3. Six months clerical training with three courses in subjects such as keyboarding, clerical math, word processing, spreadsheets, database, graphics presentation, proofreading, or office etiquette may be substituted for the required experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration classifications or Administrative, Clerical or Office Services specialty codes in the Clerical Support field of work on a year-for year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The preferred candidate for this position should possess:

  • Experience with data entry and using MS Office programs
  • Experience managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, goal/solutions-oriented work environment
  • Experience working with customers at multiple levels and/or providing direct customer service
