LOCATION OF POSITION

7800 Harkins Rd Lanham, MD 20706.

Department of Housing and Community Development Headquarters Office is located in Prince George's County across from the New Carrollton Metro stop.

POSITION DUTIES

The Division of Finance and Administration seeks an enthusiastic individual to serve as the Controller of Grant Accounting. This is a key management position responsible for the accounting functions related to all grant funding received, and granted, by the Department.  This position will be responsible for managing month end grant reconciliations and related entries; proper allocation of expenses; payroll allocations; State, Federal and other financial/compliance reporting as required by each grant; year-end close; and other duties as assigned by the Director of Finance and Administration, under the supervision of the Grant Accounting Director. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  A bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Accounting, or Business Administration with 12 credit hours in Accounting Courses.             

Experience: Five years of experience in grant accounting with at least two years spent supervising staff accountants.  

Notes: Possession of a certificate as a Certified Public Accountant or Master degree in accounting from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the required accounting experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to candidates with experience in the following:

Governmental accounting;

Managing and/or compliance reporting for multiple federal awards;

Strong management skills;

Strong analytical and accounting skills;

Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel; and 

Demonstrated ability to work under tight deadlines.
