Main Purpose of Job

The purpose of the Research Analyst will be to collect, analyze, evaluate and disseminate criminal history information relating to arrest and disposition records in Maryland. The analyst will coordinate the sharing of criminal history statistical information among the CJIS and ITCD operating managers for the purpose of identifying better reporting and management processes, to identify trends in database errors or data reporting issues. The individual will provide statistical analysis support to the Director, Assistant Directors, and operational administrators within CJIS.

POSITION DUTIES

This position is responsible for researching and locating missing court disposition information, matching the retrieved court disposition information with the associated arrest information in the State's criminal history database and updating the State's criminal history records with the newly found disposition information.

Research Analyst will conduct court disposition research at Maryland State Archives (MSA), located at 350 Rowe Blvd., Annapolis, MD 21401. Use of a state vehicle will be available for this travel. This duty is not full time but is rotated with the other Analyst.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university including or supplemented by three or more semester hours in statistics beyond the elementary course.

Experience: One year of experience in statistical or research work which must have included the application of statistical techniques.

Note: 

1. One year’s experience in statistical research work, including the application of elementary statistical techniques, may be substituted for the required course in advanced statistics.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Statistician and Intelligence Officer specialty codes in the Statistics field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education. 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in analyzing, collecting, evaluating and disseminating criminal history information to criminal agencies.

Experience in identifying trends and anomalies within statistical data

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
