*This is a SPECIAL APPOINTMENT position with the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. The incumbent serves at the pleasure of the appointing authority.

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to manage the operations of Police Correctional Training Commission's Certification Unit for certification of mandated law enforcement officers and mandated correctional personnel as required by COMAR law and Maryland Police Correctional Training Commissions regulations.

POSITION DUTIES

Managing the Certification Unit by overseeing the certification of approximately 29,000 mandated law enforcement and correctional employees throughout the State of Maryland.

Directing audits of law enforcement and correctional academies, employment and annual in-service training records of all law enforcement and correctional agencies to ensure compliance with the Commissions' selection and training standards and, if necessary, corrections of deficiencies supporting compliance.

Overseeing the processing for initial certification renewal and recertification of mandated law enforcement and correctional personnel in the state of Maryland.

Manage notifications to all law enforcement and correctional agencies regarding the lapse of certification and compliance status of mandated personnel.

Supervise processing for initial certification, certification renewal and recertification of mandated law enforcement and mandated correctional personnel in Maryland.

Provide supervision of subordinate staff.

Perform other duties as necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Five years of experience in administrative staff or professional work.

Notes:

1. Additional experience in administrative staff or professional work may be substituted on a year-for-year basics for the required education.

2. Additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university may substituted at the rate of 30 semester credit hours on a year to year basis for the required general experience.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Applicant must meet this selective qualification to be considered. Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

Two years experience in reviewing/interpreting/applying requirements of statutory regulations, policies and procedures.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The following qualification is preferred, not required:

Two years experience reviewing or processing applications for licensing or other regulatory functions.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Selected applicant MUST successfully complete a background investigation.
