Introduction

Maryland Public Television, which is commonly known by its familiar name "MPT", is a public television network that comprises six television stations that broadcast throughout the entire state of Maryland as well as into the District of Columbia and parts of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. MPT is the only statewide broadcaster in Maryland. MPT is a member of the Public Broadcasting Service.

Main Purpose of Job

The Manager of Major & Planned Giving will be an integral part of the major and planned giving team. In collaboration with the Managing Director of Major & Planned Giving, this position will: 1) manage a dedicated portfolio of individual donors, 2) develop and implement fundraising strategies and ensure donor stewardship and 3) work closely with board volunteers and senior staff to support the collective efforts of leadership annual, major gift, and planned gift fundraising for the MPT Foundation.

This is a Special Appointment position, and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of 100 current and prospective major gift donors. 
  • Staff the President, Vice President, MPT Foundation board members, and senior staff on solicitation meetings and other donor visits.  
  • Provide administrative and strategic support to MPT Foundation board committees as assigned.  
  • Increase giving among the membership of the annual leadership giving society by developing individual strategies for donors of $5,000+  
  • Grow membership in the Legacy Society for planned giving donors by soliciting and stewarding donors for planned gift commitments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s Degree  

Experience:  Minimum five (5) years of experience in non-profit development, including direct fundraising experience and a proven track record of soliciting and closing major gifts of at least five-figures.

For education obtained outside the U.S., a copy of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service must be provided prior to hire.

  • Master’s degree
  • A strong belief in the mission of MPT and the importance of public media
  • Experience with the moves management model of prospect cultivation
  • Discretion in handling confidential and sensitive information
  • Superior interpersonal skills, including being an enthusiastic team player and active listener with a proven ability to work well with a wide range of internal and external constituents.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
