Maryland Public Television (MPT) is seeking an experienced fundraising professional to assist and enhance its current major and planned giving program.

Main Purpose of Job

The Major Gifts Officer is responsible for fundraising for the MPT Foundation, Inc. in support of the activities of Maryland Public Television. The Major Gifts Officer will carry a portfolio of 150-200 prospects and will be responsible for raising four figure plus Leadership Society annual contributions; Legacy Society estate commitments; and, five to seven figure commitments from individuals and foundations, utilizing a moves management model, to support the MPT Foundation's capital campaign and productions for MPT's Content Division. The Major Gifts Officer is a member of the Major and Planned Giving team responsible for increasing the total dollars raised and growing the number of donors to MPT's Major & Planned Giving program.

This is a Special Appointment position, and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Increase total dollars raised to the MPT's Major and Planned Giving Program through face-to-face solicitations
  • Solicit five to seven figure commitments to support MPT’s Content Division and/or MPT Foundation's capital campaign.
  • Write and apply to foundations to secure grant funding for productions for MPT's Content Division
  • Support senior staff and key MPT Foundation Board Directors in prospect visits
  • Take a leadership role in the MPT Foundation Campaign
  • Create an outstanding donor stewardship program

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's degree in Communications, Business or related field.

Experience: A minimum of five years in Development or equivalent field. Must demonstrate/show a proven ability carrying a major gifts portfolio and ability to write successful grant proposals.  The successful candidate will be skilled in creating and enhancing donor relationships and giving in a non-profit environment.  Excellent written and oral communications skills; proven skill in building and managing a portfolio of 150-200 prospects and donors; strong interpersonal and organization skills are essential.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Strong preference will be given to applicants that possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding the qualifications.

  • PBS fundraising experience is a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Gmail, donor databases and familiarity with moves management
  • Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation with Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP)
  • Charted Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP) designation with the American College

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification will be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
