Main Purpose of Job

This is a professional lead position responsible for the monitoring of local public agencies and local school systems to ensure compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR), and improve results for infants, toddlers, young children, and youth with disabilities and their families, birth through age 21.

POSITION DUTIES

Implements the Monitoring for Continuous Improvement and Results (MCIR) activities; provides technical assistance to public agencies and local school systems; utilizes the statewide data system for disseminating information and evaluating the effectiveness of services to children  and youth with disabilities; collects and verifies the  accuracy of data to analyze monitoring findings in assigned local school systems; participates on assigned differentiated on-site monitoring teams and in activities to determine public agency compliance with the IDEA and COMAR as it pertains to children with disabilities, birth through age 21.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:  A Master’s Degree or equivalent 36 post baccalaureate credit hours of course work in Education, Special Education or a closely related field.  

EXPERIENCE:  Five (5) years of professional administrative or teaching experience in or affiliated with special education or early intervention, experience coordinating or administering programs related to services for individuals with disabilities and their families is preferred.

NOTE:  Two additional years of experience as defined may substitute for the Master’s Degree.
