In addition to its larger statewide role, the Department of Information Technology manages Information Technology and Telecommunication services within the agency itself and provides support to state agencies, the Executive Office of the Governor, the Governor’s coordinating offices, and a variety of independent agencies within the Executive Branch. Striving to provide the highest level of customer service to its internal and external customers, the Department of Information Technology supports Maryland’s agencies and commissions through its leadership as a principal procurement unit.

Main Purpose of Job

The primary purpose of the position is to provide management and oversight of DoIT's Information Technology Asset Management (ITAM) and Configuration Management (CM) operations.

ITAM encompasses the processes responsible for tracking and reporting the value and ownership of assets throughout their life cycle. The main stages of an asset's life cycle are planning, procurement, deployment, usage, upgrade, decommission, disposition and salvage.

IT assets include all elements of hardware and software that are found in the Enterprise IT environment. ITAM also supports strategic decision making for the Enterprise IT environment.

Configuration Management (CM) is an Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL)) and an IT Service Management (ITSM) process that tracks all of the individual Configuration Items (or assets) in an IT system which may be as simple as a single server, or as complex as the entire data center department.

Both ITAM and CM are critical to the ongoing support DoIT provides to agencies for whom it has operational responsibility.

This position supports the 31 agencies and administrations that are currently included as a part of DoIT's shared services responsibilities. This position supports the associated assets utilized by 10,000 employees.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Information Technology from an accredited college/university.   

Experience  

Five years of experience managing the IT Asset Management (ITAM), and Configuration Management (CM) processes, including software, for an organization of 5,000 users or more.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Our Preferred Candidate Will Have the Following:

 

ITIL Foundations v3 certification  

 

Two years of experience managing enterprise license agreements and license compliance for an organization of 5,000 users or more.

 

Two years of experience with ServiceNow as the IT Service Management tool for ITAM and CM.

 

Supervisory experience in hiring and evaluating staff to maintain qualified and motivated personnel.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle.  Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
