Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to provide clinical services to patients at the St. Mary's County Health Department and/or other local entities, as needed. Duties of this position may include, but are not limited to: family planning and reproductive health, and sexually transmitted infection (STI) treatment and/or testing. This position may also perform medical acts under the direction of a licensed physician and in compliance with controlling statutes and regulations.


Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Physician Quality Assurance under the certification requirements for Physician Assistants.

Experience: One year of experience performing the duties of a Physician Assistant.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Physician Assistant classifications or Physician Assistant specialty codes in the Physician field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.


The preferred candidate for this position will possess experience in the following areas:

  • family planning
  • women's health
  • sexually transmitted infection (STI) and primary care
  • administering Intrauterine devices (IUD)and Nexplanon


Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current certificate, or be eligible for certification, as a Physician Assistant from the Maryland State Board of Physician Quality Assurance, 4201 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215. ***A copy of your current licensure should accompany your completed application, if applicable.***


1. Applicants may be given a medical examination prior to their appointment to determine their ability to perform the work of the position.

2. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 06.01.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
