Main Purpose of Job

This main purpose of this position will be responsible for conducting telephone risk assessments and providing education to pregnant members who contact the Help Line. This MSRN will review information in the MHC and MMIS systems and based on that information will assist women with access to prenatal care. Pregnant women applying for Medicaid often need to be linked to traditional fee-for-service prenatal care prior to enrollment in an MCO. All prenatal care providers are required to submit the MPRA form to Medicaid for pregnant women enrolled in Medicaid or who will be applying for Medicaid coverage. This MSRN will review Maryland Prenatal Risk Assessment forms and identify high risk women. This MSRN will also review enrollment and claims issues related to delivery and newborn enrollment. This position will assist women seeking termination of pregnancy services by explaining the benefit and its limitations. Women who qualify will be linked to an enrolled Medicaid provider and referred to a family planning provider. Those who do not qualify will be assisted in accessing prenatal care. This position will also conduct telephonic assessments of beneficiaries seeking postpartum and family planning services or who are enrolled in the Family Planning waiver program to access an enrolled family planning provider. This position will also review family planning claims and assist providers with claims resolution.


Education: Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or a related field from an accredited college or university.

Experience: One year of experience reviewing medical services claims to ensure that the nature and quality of services are in accordance with State and federal regulations.


1. Two years of experience as a Registered Nurse may be substituted for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Nursing classifications or Nursing  specialty codes in the Nursing field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.


1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215. A copy of your license or license number must accompany your application.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
