Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to serve as the Deputy Director for the Bureau of Family Health Services at the Anne Arundel County Department of Health. This position provides administrative supervision for Bureau programs and staff of approximately 82 FTE professional, managerial, clerical, and service personnel and an annual budget of over 9 million dollars. Bureau programs include Healthy Start, WIC, Dental Health, REACH (Residents Access to a Coalition of Health, ACC/Expanded ACC/Ombudsman (Administrative Care Coordination Unit), Eligibility and Enrollment (MCHP & Medical Assistance Transportation) and Fetal Infant Mortality Review/Child Fatality Review.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Master’s degree in nursing or a related field from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Three years of experience as a Community Health Nurse in an administrative, supervisory, consultative or teaching capacity or two years of experience as a Community Health Nurse and two years of experience in an administrative, supervisory, consultative or teaching capacity as a Registered Nurse.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute a Bachelor’s degree in nursing or a related field and four years of experience as a Community Health Nurse in an administrative, supervisory, consultative or teaching capacity for the required education and experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a commissioned officer in Nursing classifications or Nursing and Hospital Administration specialty codes in the Nursing field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The successful applicant should have training in implementation of nursing services and experience in administration and oversight of public health programs, and be able to conduct program assessments and perform quality assurance and improvement.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Employees in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4201 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile. Employees assigned such duties may be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland, and their driving records will be subject to investigation.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees in some positions in this classification are assigned duties which will require examination by a physician. After an offer of employment applicants for such positions will be given a medical examination to certify the ability to perform essential job functions.

2. Employees in this classification may be required to provide the facility with a telephone number at which they can be reached.
