Introduction

The Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (DLLR) is accepting applications from all qualified applicants for the position of Police Officer II. This position primary function is to protect the lives and property of the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation.

Main Purpose of Job

The primary purpose of this position is to protect the lives and property of the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation. To enforce the laws, rules and regulations, that governs the State of Maryland. To perform daily Police and customer service operations with Integrity, Fairness and Impartiality.

POSITION DUTIES

Duties of this position include, but are not limited to

  • To provide 24 hour Police Protection to the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation employees, guest and property.
  • To work day, evening, night or rotating shifts, that may include holidays and weekends.
  • Officers will be called upon to work more than their normal scheduled 8 hour tour a duty, when necessary to supplement the needs of the department.
  • As essential personnel, Officers will respond in a timely manner, ready to work, when required to be on-call during emergency situations. (State of Emergencies, Weather related incidents)
  • Maintain Post integrity whether on foot patrol, mobile patrol or stationary position at all times.
  • To patrol the building and grounds of DLLR properties.
  • Patrol buildings during normal and non-business hours, to include, individual offices, hallways, stairs, restrooms, café, loading docks, mailroom, supply room, elevators and blind areas to the surveillance system.
  • Provide Quality customer service-(Respect, Direction, Listening, Positive and Timely Response, Positive and Professional Attitude)
  • Check fire extinguishers and fire alarm call boxes.
  • Secure exterior doors and security gates at appropriate times.
  • Monitor surveillance system.
  • Report Writing-Criminal-Miscellaneous
  • Respond to disturbances and emergencies within the building and surrounding community.
  • Administer first aid and evacuate personnel appropriately when emergencies arise.
  • Monitor the parking lot by only allowing personnel with valid parking permits on the lot.
  • Assist motorist.
  • Traffic control.
  • Make arrest when necessary and appear in court as the state's witness.
  • Uniforms/Grooming.
  • Vehicle Maintenance.
  • Dignitary Protection.
  • Employee Escorts.
  • Maintain all certifications.
  • Attend all Mandatory Training.
  • Assist neighboring Police Agencies when necessary.
  • Qualify yearly with Semi-Automatic handgun.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High School diploma or G.E.D. certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission regulation.

Experience: Six months of experience as a certified law enforcement officer.

Note

1. The above educational requirement is set by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission in accordance with the Annotated Code of Maryland, Public Safety Article, Section 3-207.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a non-commissioned officer in Protective Service classifications or Law Enforcement specialty codes in the Military Police Officer field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a police officer certification as required by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission at the time of application.

2. Applicants formerly certified by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission as a police officer within the past three years who are eligible for recertification at the time of appointment meet the certification requirement for this classification. The recertification criteria are listed in the Code of Maryland Regulations 12.04.01.07, available at the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission.

3. Employees may be required to possess or obtain a special police commission in accordance with the Annotated Code of Maryland, Public Safety Article, Section 3-209.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Selection standards for police officer certification are established by theMaryland Police and Correctional Training Commission in accordance with the Annotated Code of Maryland, Public Safety Article, Section 3-207. These selection criteria are listed in detail in the Code of Maryland Regulations 12.04.01.04 and include the following: U.S. Citizenship Must be at least 21 years of age Satisfactory background investigation, including a check of criminal history Oral interview Physical examination Possession of a driver's license valid in the State of Maryland.

2. Employees in this classification are subject to call-in and, therefore, will be required to provide the employer with a phone number where they can be reached.

3. Employees in this classification may be required to bear firearms and to demonstrate practical knowledge and proficiency in the safe use and care of firearms on a periodic basis as required by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission. 4. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing inaccordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment Insurance (DLLR/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to DLLR/DUI as a result of unemployment overpayment/fraud. Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.
