Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to support the Howard County Health Department (HCHD) and the Bureau of Health Promotion (BHP), in collaboration with the Community Health Educator III Supervisor and Community Health Educator IV Director of Community Health Education, with the coordination and implementation of community health education and disease prevention programs within HCHD. This position assists with coordinating and maintaining day-to-day operations for specific community-based programs and Howard County Health Department based programs. Responsibilities include coordination and active management of community health planning, training and education, data sharing, and quality improvement for the specific programs and community health education efforts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in nursing, social work, psychology, education, counseling or a related field.

Experience: Two years of professional experience in health services, one year of which must have been in professional clinical or administrative work in health or medical services in areas other than Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities or Addictions.

Notes:
1. Applicants may substitute a master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a health or human service field for one year of the required general experience.

2. Experience in the option must be as follows: professional clinical or administrative work in health or medical services in areas other than Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities or Addictions.

3. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in another field plus one additional year of professional experience in health services may be substituted for the specific degree.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Administration classifications or Civil Affairs Specialist specialty codes in the health related field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Desired qualifications:
- Experience with developing evidence-based health education curricula and/or health promotion programs/materials.
- Experience with coordinating and facilitating health educational workshops, trainings, or outreach events.
- Experience with collecting, analyzing and reporting data in a professional setting.
