Main Purpose of Job

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Engineering & Construction Unit is currently accepting applications for a Seasonal Contractual Agency Project Engineer/Architect I. This position will serve as part time Project Manager for Critical Maintenance and will be responsible for projects estimated at up to $50,000. Serving as Project Manager, the selected candidate will be involved with project evaluation, design, management and follow-up of multiple projects associated with the maintenance, repair and renovations to buildings, roads, utilities and other forms of infrastructure that exist on DNR owned facilities.

The selected candidate must have the ability to handle multiple projects at the same time, prioritize workloads, conduct meeting, maintain official records/files and evaluate progress from concept to completion. Good people skills are essential regarding making decisions, communication, respect toward others and customer service.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

For education obtained outside of the United States (U.S.), you will be required to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service. If you possess a degree obtained outside of the U.S., please submit a detailed, course-by-course evaluation report from one of the U.S. equivalency evaluating members identified at http://www.naces.org/members.html prior to hire.

Education: A Bachelor’s degree in engineering or architecture from an accredited college or university.

Experience: None.

Notes:

1. Additional experience as an engineer or architect in the building construction or maintenance field involving the design, construction or repair of building structures or system services may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Professional Engineer or Professional Architect registration in the State of Maryland or in a state with comparable requirements may be substituted for the required education.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Engineering and Architecture classifications or Engineering and Architecture specialty codes in the Architecture field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate should be proficient in the use of computers using standard office software such as Word and Excel. Although not required, knowledge of CAD would be beneficial. Individual should be well organized and have the ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with others of various levels of knowledge and experience. Candidate should be well versed in multiple types of construction associated with maintenance, repairs and renovations of buildings, roads and utilities. In addition they should have a good working knowledge of various types of construction with regards to standards, codes, means and methods.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees may be required to carry an electronic paging device or provide the employing agency with a telephone number where the employee can be reached.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a temporary/contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
