Main Purpose of Job

A Maintenance Chief IV is the supervisory level of stationary engineering and building maintenance work. Licensed employees in this classification supervise stationary engineers and skilled and semi-skilled building maintenance workers.

POSITION DUTIES

The Maintenance Chief IV at the Department of Juvenile Services Noyes Children’s Center will be responsible for the construction, installation, alterations, renovations, preventive maintenance, repairs, and snow removal. The position will be responsible for the daily uninterrupted operation of heating, air conditioning, lighting, sanitation, and all other institutional equipment and systems. The Maintenance Chief IV position will supervise building maintenance personnel and outside contractors who perform maintenance of the facilities; including ensuring compliance with health, safety, and building codes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of eighth grade.

Experience: Five years experience in the building maintenance or building construction trades including four years of responsibility for assigning, reviewing and approving the work of other building maintenance or building construction workers.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher, as a non-commissioned officer in utilities classifications or mechanical maintenance management specialty codes in utility systems repair, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates who possess a trade license and/or certification in one of the following trades are preferred: Carpentry, electrical/electrician, building/facility maintenance, HVAC, painting, or plumbing.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in the licensed option must possess and maintain a current Maryland First Grade Stationary Engineer License from the Board of Examining Engineers and must list the license number and date on the application.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
