Main Purpose of Job

This position will serve as a Consultant Pharmacist for the Maryland Medicaid Pharmacy Program (MMPP). This position reviews pharmacy services provided to Maryland Medical Assistance recipients through fee-for-service, managed care and long term care or other service delivery models. Pharmacy services review includes work in the areas of drug use management, retrospective claims review, formulary review, access issues, provider compliance issues, member compliance issues, and authorizations for pharmacy services. Furthermore, this position assists the Program in development of clinical criteria of medications and stays abreast of all the current and emerging clinical guidelines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:    Graduation from an accredited School of Pharmacy with a doctorate in Pharmacy (PharmD).

Experience:  One year of clinical pharmacy experience as a Registered Pharmacist.

NOTES:

1. Candidates may substitute four additional years of clinical experience as a Registered Pharmacist for the required education.

2. Experience gained during a formal residency program may be applied to the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Pharmacist classifications or Pharmacist specialty codes in the Pharmacist field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with specialty drugs, IV drug therapy, and development and review of clinical criteria is preferred.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Pharmacist from the Maryland State Board of Pharmacy, 4201 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.  A copy of your license must be attached to the application.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1.  Employees in this classification are subject to call-in and, therefore, will be required to provide the facility with a phone number at which they can be reached.

2.  Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.  As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
