Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position will be to provide health care and disease prevention information related to asthma and lead medically underserved populations, under the close direction of the Supervisor of Asthma and Cancer Control or other professional staff within the Chronic Disease Prevention and Control Program. Specific duties include, but are not limited to scheduling dates, times, and/or locations for health education and promotional events; assisting with preparing and assembling materials for asthma; leading health education events; and, interacting with private and/or public entities to identify target populations for a referral.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: One year of experience in providing information on health care and disease prevention within the community.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute experience providing assistance to individuals in a health care or social services setting on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Health Services classifications or Health Services and specialty codes in the health related field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The preferred candidate for this position should possess:

  • experience working with diverse populations to communicate health information
  • the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently in accomplishing tasks and/or achieving results

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
