Main Purpose of Job

This executive level position reports directly to the thirteen member Board, with the responsibility for the leadership, administration, direction and operation of the Board of Nursing to achieve its mission. This position requires extensive experience in the management of personnel, multi-million dollar budgets, and regulatory functions of nursing.  This position requires a high level of analytical skills for the leadership and supervision of all Board regulatory programs. This position is required to ensure the operational efficiency of the MD Board of Nursing (MBON), and maintain its consistency with the MBON's strategic plan, the Nurse Practice Act (NPA), and the Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR). The Executive Director is responsible for the overall administration of Board processes under the authority and oversight of the Maryland Board of Nursing. These processes include: the licensure, certification, compliance, regulation, education, stakeholder outreach, and management of information systems, as they relate to the practice of nursing.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified candidates must possess a Master's Degree in nursing or a related field and six (6) years of experience in health services, healthcare administration, or professional experience, including three (3) years at the executive level of management.  Applicants must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland Board of Nursing.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The successful applicant should have advanced knowledge of professional nursing practice in an executive or specialty area, as evidence through certification; such as Certified Executive Nursing Practice (CENP), Nurse Executive Advanced - Board Certified (NEA-BC), or Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE).  At least one of the aforementioned certifications are required within 18 months of hire.  Five years of management level experience as defined as; program development, implementation, and evaluation including supervision of middle-management level staff is preferred. A doctoral degree may substitute for two years of management experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Applicants must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland Board of Nursing. A copy of your license, license verification or license number and expiration date must be attached to your application.
