Main Purpose of Job

The Deputy Director is the second ranking senior administrator of MDH's Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Control (CCDPC), which sets direction for environment and systems changes in Maryland communities to prevent and manage chronic disease. CCDPC houses a wide variety of projects to address heart disease, diabetes, obesity, hypertension, and Alzheimer's disease, as well as projects to promote nutrition, physical activity, and inclusive programming for citizens with disabilities. The Deputy Director directly supervisors three program teams, comprised of junior and mid-career staff, and s/he works with these teams to oversee the development of budgets, tracking of expenditures, planning of resources, and management of assets, including leading complex procurements. In addition to resource management duties, the Deputy Director is responsible for project design, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based programming activities are completed in a systematic and efficient manner to achieve MDH, PHPA, and CCDPC's mission, goals, and objectives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified candidates must possess a bachelor's degree and 6 year of health service experience, including 3 at a supervisory level.  Candidates must also possess at least 2 years of experience with public health programs, including current health care delivery systems, barriers to access, and social detriments of health.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Desired candidates would possess:

  • program management or administrative experience in non-communicable disease prevention and control;
  • experience in workforce development, including recruitment, retention, and career development support;
  • financial management experience, including developing budgets, tracking expenditures, and managing assets.

This is a Management Service position, and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.  A resume must accompany you application.
