Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to plan, direct, organize and administer social work services in relation to the hospital and assisted living program that serves individuals in accordance with accepted social work practice. This position manages professional social workers and other support staff, being responsible for liaison and outreach to community support services. This position provides overall supervision and sets standards in regards to social work performance as it pertains to all social work services, e.g. admission, treatment, continuum of care, transition and discharge planning for individuals admitted to and treatment at the Eastern Shore Hospital Center. This position makes administrative decisions regarding the provision of social work services including the recruitment of staff and retention, staff assignments, the provision of social work services, time off, coverage, progressive discipline and termination of employees in the Social Work Department.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners under the licensing requirements for Social Workers.

Experience: Seven years experience rendering clinical social work services in a health care or treatment setting subsequent to the receipt of an approved Master’s degree in Social Work from an accredited college or university. At least three years of the experience must have involved the direction of a clinical services program/unit or the supervision of master’s degreed social workers.

Note:

Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a commissioned officer in Social Work classifications or Social Work specialty codes in the Social Science, Psychology, and Welfare field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates must be licensed as a Certified Social Worker, Clinical by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners prior to appointment to a position in State service. Applicants who do not have the license may also apply pending receipt of the required license. When the license is obtained, submit a copy to the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Testing unit.  A copy of your current license or license verification must accompany your application.

2. Candidates appointed to positions in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess an appropriate operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
