Main Purpose of Job

This position is located in the Behavioral Health Branch which provides referrals, outreach and training for substance use and mental health issues and needs affecting all St. Mary's County residents. This position requires the application of comprehensive experience to manage the day-to-day activities and functions and to serve as the principle staff member in executing an active and effective behavioral health program. This outreach position will primarily encourage individuals to access available substance use treatment services in our community and/or connect with treatment support and recovery services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:    Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in nursing, social work, psychology, education, counseling or a related field.  A copy of your transcript must be attached to the application.

Experience:  Two years of professional experience in health services, one year of which must have been in the option for which application is made.

NOTES:

1.  Applicants may substitute a master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a health or human service field for one year of the required general experience.

2.  Experience in the option must be as follows: professional work related to treatment and services to persons with alcohol or other substance abuse addiction.

3.  A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in another field plus one additional year of professional experience in health services may be substituted for the specific degree.

4.  Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Administration classifications or Civil Affairs Specialist specialty codes in the health related field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should have experience supporting clients/patients in a Mental Health or Addiction setting; knowledge of HIPPA and code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR); understanding of confidentiality laws and policies; and experience with managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, goal/solutions oriented work environment. Experience with MS Excel and Access is also desired.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.  As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
