Main Purpose of Job

The physician is charged with the duty of evaluating, diagnosing, admitting, treating patients, and making discharge and after-care plans for the patients admitted to the hospital, with the participation of the patients, most commonly of young adult age and middle age, less commonly of geriatric age, and only rarely adolescents on the deaf unit. All clinical activities and duties are to be carried out in accordance with hospital policies, rules and regulations in accordance with performance improvement goals, and within the fiscal constraints mandated to the hospital. All clinical activities are to be documented in the medical record as required by hospital policies. The physician supports the mission of the organization through active participation in clinical efforts to provide treatment in a recovery oriented environment. The foundation of a recovery oriented environment is respect and a commitment to safety in the least restrictive manner possible.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a degree in medicine from an accredited college or university.

Experience: As required for certification in an area of medical specialization by an American Medical Association Specialty Board.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Medical Corpsman and Physicians classifications or Nursing or Physician and Medical Services and Special Corpsman Officer specialty codes in the medicine field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified candidates must possess Board certification in Psychiatry.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Applicants must be certified by an American Medical Association Specialty Board in an area of medical specialization.

2. Applicants must be licensed by the Maryland Board of Physicians to practice medicine under Maryland State Law. A copy of the current license must be attached to the application.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
