Introduction

The Maryland Department of Health (MDH) is excited to announce our inaugural MDH Public Health Workforce Development Internship Program that is expected to begin fall 2022. The purpose of the program is to form partnerships with academic institutions by creating student internship opportunities, and building a graduation-to-workforce pipeline that will bolster the public health workforce.  

The fall session will be 13 weeks and run from September 6, 2022 to December 6, 2022. This program is open to students enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program that are in good academic standing who have a special interest in public health. We are offering remote, hybrid, and in-person opportunities. Students can work a minimum of 120 hours and a maximum of 260 hours during the 13-week period, which will average to approximately 15 hours/week. Program areas include: Health Policy, Epidemiology, Infectious Diseases, Biostatistics, Health Informatics, Preparedness, Public Health Accreditation, Community Health, Environmental Health, Occupational Health, Healthcare Administrations, Health Education, Public Health Communications, Behavioral Sciences, Clinical Laboratory Sciences, and Other. Students are welcome to apply for more than one opening. If a student is considered, they will only be selected for one position. 

Students must submit a copy of their unofficial transcripts with their application. All student applications must be submitted by August 5, 2022, at 11:59:00 PM. Students will be interviewed in the subsequent weeks and student selections will be made by August 26, 2022.

Main Purpose of Job

The Assistant Coordinator of Community Services internship is perfect for a current college student or a recent college graduate. You’ll gain valuable resume experience and build your targeted case management and program administration skills. Our Assistant Coordinator of Community Services intern will be part of our Dorchester County Health Department CCS team and responsible for helping track performance metrics and complete other administrative duties based upon the needs of the program. Ultimately, the Assistant Coordinator of Community Services intern will help manage programmatic data related to program performance.

Assistant Coordinator of Community Services Intern Duties and Responsibilities

  • Shadow Team Members on community face visits
  • Assist with completion of documentation of services in state approved format
  • Manage a spreadsheet to track due dates, compliance metrics, and caseload changes
  • Maintain confidential records (physical and electronic)
  • Communicate with outside agencies via phone, email or in person
  • Perform other reasonable duties as assigned by Program Supervisor/Director

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Candidates must possess at least 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university with current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program.  Applications are also open to recent graduates from an accredited college or university.

    Assistant Coordinator of Community Services Intern Requirements

    • Proficient with google software (calendar, sheets, docs)
    • Excellent customer service skills
    • A positive outlook and willingness to learn 
    • The ability to work a hybrid schedule (combination of in office, teleworking, and community work)
    • Some experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities (preferred)
