MDH/Eastern Shore Hospital Center, Cambridge, Maryland

Main Purpose of Job

This position will consist of the advanced level of work which provides psychiatric clinical services to patients who are mentally or chronically ill, developmentally disabled, or in need of medical and preventive services (i.e. evaluation, treatment, discharge, and after-care planning). This position requires certification by the American Medical Association Specialty Board in the specialty of Psychiatry.

The Physician Clinical Specialist receives general supervision from a Physician Program Manager III and is responsible for patients assigned by the Clinical Director to an acute 20-bed Psychiatric Patient Unit and/or the 16-bed Alternative Living Unit at the Eastern Shore Hospital Center.  

Finally, this position provides guidance and direction to other clinical and treatment staff, such as nurses, psychologists, social workers, and direct care staff members who provide residential care. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a degree in Medicine from an accredited college or university.

 

Experience: As required for certification in an area of medical specialization by an American Medical Association Specialty Board in Psychiatry.

 

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Medical Corpsman and Physicians classifications, or Nursing, or Physician and Medical Services, and Special Corpsman Officer specialty codes in the medicine field of work, on a year-for-year basis, for the required education.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Applicants must be certified by an American Medical Association Specialty Board in an area of Psychiatry.

2. Applicants must be licensed by the Maryland Board of Physicians to practice medicine under Maryland State Law. A copy of a current Maryland medical license and board certification should be attached to the application.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing, in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
