Introduction

Maryland Public Television, which is commonly known by its familiar name "MPT", is a public television network that comprises six television stations that broadcast throughout the entire state of Maryland as well as into the District of Columbia and parts of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. MPT is the only statewide broadcaster in Maryland. MPT is a member of the Public Broadcasting Service.

Main Purpose of Job

The Building Security Officer is responsible for protection of persons, equipment and property at the MPT facility.

This is a Special Appointment position, and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Staff a watch post and interfaces with staff and visitors entering the MPT building/property.
  • Observes activity on security cameras.
  • Reacts to activation of the fire alarm system and 911 calls.
  • Contacts police, fire department and MPT officials.
  • Communicates with other Guards and Facilities Manager with any problems or needs on assigned shift.
  • Makes rounds/key tour to check on security operations throughout the MPT complex, reports on security problems and building/equipment/utility issues that require either immediate attention or systematic notification of facility staff.
  • As required, checks on vehicles entering MPT property, controls parking and sets out barricades, raises and lowers flags etc.
  • Enforces specified agency regulations.
  • Performs other related duties such as answering the telephones, giving directions, filling out logs to note problems and activity and other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High School Diploma or GED

Experience: At least one (1) year of experience in building security work.

For education obtained outside the U.S., a copy of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service must be provided prior to hire.

Strong preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s).  Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

Experience making and maintaining schedules a plus.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

Employees in this classification are subject to call 24 hours a day and, therefore, will be required to provide the employer with a telephone number where they can be reached.

Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 06.01.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Selected candidates will be subjected to a thorough background check, including fingerprinting and drug testing.
