Main Purpose of Job

The Deputy Director is the second ranking senior administrator of MDH's Center for Cancer Prevention and Control (CCPC). As one of the highest profile and largest ($50 million +) public health portfolios, CCPC is responsible for a wide variety of programs, such as the Breast and Cervical Cancer Program, Comprehensive Cancer Control Program, Colorectal Cancer Control Program, Maryland Cancer Registry, Surveillance and Evaluation Unit and the Cigarette Restitution Fund Cancer Programs. The incumbent provides day-to-day operational direction to four units within CCPC. The Deputy Director works with these units to oversee the development of budgets, tracking of expenditures, planning of resources, and management of assets, including leading complex procurements. The incumbent works to ensure these are completed in a systematic and efficient manner to achieve MDH, PHPA and CCPC's mission, goals, and objectives. The incumbent provides back up to the Director and is responsible for the entire center in the Director's absence.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and six years of health or human services professional experience, including three years at a supervisory or management level.  Candidates must also possess at least 2 years of experience managing administrative, operational, procurement and financial aspects in a large public health program.

A Master's degree will substitute for one year of general experience.  A Doctorate will substitute for two years of general experience. 

SELECTION PROCESS

This is a Management Service position, and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.  A resume must accompany your application.
