Main Purpose of Job

Support the Division of Rehabilitation Services through coordination and management of a comprehensive volunteer services program statewide; to facilitate and enhance services to individuals with significant disabilities through volunteer services; to provide technical assistance to the Workforce & Technology and Disability Determination Services.

POSITION DUTIES

Maintain an in depth knowledge of DORS organization, goals and objectives, work activities and opportunities for volunteer support throughout the Division.  Coordinate and manage the DORS volunteer services program, to include identification of agency needs, recruitment, orientation and support of volunteers, provide accurate information in print and online about the Volunteer Services program, maintain the volunteer database, provide orientation to DORS interns, evaluate program effectiveness and prepare an annual report. Provide leadership for DORS events, including blood drives, Cancer Awareness activities, Maryland Charities campaign, annual recognition of Volunteers, MRA-DORS annual training conference and other DORS-sponsored events as requested. Provide technical assistance and support to the Workforce & Technology Center, to include maintaining the Nearly New shop for consumers and acting as liaison between DORS and the non-profit Friends of WTC. Conduct outreach and participate in professional organizations related to Volunteer Services, to include the Governor’s Office on Service and Volunteerism, the Maryland Council of Directors of Volunteer Services, and Senior Community Service Employment program and other programs that provide volunteer assistance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.  

EXPERIENCE:

Two years of administrative, librarian, teaching or rehabilitation work in education, library or rehabilitation programs.  

Notes:

  1. Additional experience as defined above directly related to the position may be substituted for the required Bachelor’s degree at the rate of one year of experience for one year of education.  
  2. Possession of a Master’s degree may be substituted for one year of the required experience. 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience managing volunteer activities in a work environment or in the community
  • Involvement as a volunteer in  a work environment or in the community
  • Experience managing special projects in a work environment or in the community
  • Specialized academic training in the area of volunteerism
