Introduction

This is a position specific recruitment for the Maryland Department of the Environment/Air and Radiation Administration. This recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies for this position/function only. The resulting cert list will be maintained for one year. Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to improve and maintain air quality in order to protect the health and welfare of the people and environment of Maryland, while providing for enhanced community service and economic development.

The primary responsibilities of this position are:

  • To perform technical analysis necessary to complete the numerous State Implementation Plans (SIP) required by the federal Clean Air Act;
  • Prepare, critique, and/or comment on various technical air quality modeling documents and databases used in the SIP development process;
  • Analyze emission control technologies for inclusion in Maryland's SIP/regulatory structure;
  • Assist with emission inventory analysis as requested.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering or architecture from an accredited college or university.

Experience: None

Notes:

1. A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with at least 20 credits in engineering and two years performing engineering or architectural work in pollution control, waste remediation, resource conservation, environmental protection, public health and safety, or related areas may be substituted for the engineering degree.

 2. Professional Engineer or Professional Architect registration in the State of Maryland or in a state with comparable requirements may be substituted for the education requirement.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Engineering and Architecture classifications or Engineering and Architecture specialty codes in the Environmental field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

It is preferred that the selective candidate:

  • Is skilled in Microsoft Excel;
  • Is proficient in Database utilization (preferably MS Access MySQL);
  • Is knowledgeable in the utilization of MATLAB;
  • Has experience using Python computer programming language.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification may be subject to call-in twenty-four hours a day, and, therefore, may be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached or carry an electronic pager.
