Introduction

The Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (DLLR) is accepting applications from all qualified applicants for the position of Database Specialist II. This position is responsible for the health and stability of all DLLR Microsoft SQL Databases.

Main Purpose of Job

Responsible for the health and stability of all Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (DLLR) Microsoft SQL Databases. Supports the activities of the department IT staff for specific applications by providing consulting to users, IT management and IT staff. Works to establish and maintain a user trust and confidence towards IT's responsiveness to user's needs. Provide database analysis, design, planning and database programming support to application development units that create and maintain a portfolio of mission critical projects across divisions within the department. Responsible for assuring that the logical and physical databases are backed up and maintained to perform efficiently, effectively and accurately, with a minimum amount of resources to meet the programmatic needs of the division and to provide management with reliable information to make business decision.

POSITION DUTIES

Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

Database Administration (Microsoft SQL:Assist developers in analyzing and developing structures. Create, modify and migrate database structures by processing scripts upon authorized notification. Ensure databases are backed up in set time frames. Recover database during system/application problems and upon request. Setup jobs to run, monitor jobs and proved assistance in determining cause of job failures and rerunning of jobs.

Mainframe Database Administration (DB2 backup):Assist developers in analyzing and developing database structures. Create, modify and migrate database structures upon authorized notification. Ensure databases are backed up in set time frames. Assist in disaster recovery testing. Provide assistance in determining cause of job failures and rerunning of jobs.

Mainframe Change Control (backup):Promote programs (development, test, production). Review and forward changes to production jobs to data center.

Mainframe Security Administration (backup):Create, change and delete logon IDs. Change security rules upon proper notification. Review daily security reports for security actions, violations, production program promotions and DB2 security in. Assist in security audits and finding resolution.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science or other information technology related field to include course work in database management systems.

Experience: One year of experience designing, developing, implementing, maintaining and controlling database management systems for computers.

Notes: 1. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate plus thirty credit hours from an accredited college or university in Computer Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science or other information technology-related field to include course work in database management systems may be substituted for the required education.

2. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate and one additional year of experience designing, developing, testing, implementing and maintaining applications systems and programs using generally accepted computer programming languages or maintaining and modifying operating systems for computers may be substituted for the required education.

3. Experience operating computer systems; or scheduling, controlling input and output or maintaining a tape library to process data on computer systems; or converting data from project specifications by developing program code using generally accepted computer programming languages may be substituted for high school education on a year-for-year basis.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Database Administration classifications or Database Administration specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

Experience designing, developing, implementing, maintaining and controlling database management systems for computers

Experience analyzing and developing database structures

Experience creating, changing and deleting logon IDs

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification may be subject to call 24 hours a day and, therefore, may be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where the employee can be reached or will be furnished with a pager.

All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment Insurance (DLLR/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to DLLR/DUI as a result of unemployment overpayment/fraud. Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.
