Main Purpose of Job

This position provides direct practical nursing care, at the intermediate level, to residents of Joseph S. Massie Unit, a residential addictions treatment unit for adults. This position will assess current physical and mental health status of patients, monitor/record vital signs, and identify nursing needs; report to physician, nurse practitioner, psychiatrist, and nursing supervisor, as indicated. This position administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques. This position determines when emergency care is indicated and initiate emergency procedures. This position works with the healthcare team to develop and implement a medical treatment plan for each resident with specifically-identified medical needs and goals addressed; revise the care plan as necessary; assist clients and families in understanding current diagnosis, treatment, and medications. This position provides counseling, guidance, and education regarding various physical, dental, mental and emotional health issues; maintain accurate, up-to-date medical records, and other practical nursing duties as assigned. This position will work an evening shift (4:00 P.M. TO 12:30 A.M.)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by the Maryland Board of Nursing under the licensing requirements for Practical Nurses.

Experience: None.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Practical Nurse from the Maryland Board of Nursing. A copy of your license or license number should accompany your application. 

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be require to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

3. Employees may be required to successfully complete and maintain current certification of cardiopulmonary resuscitation training.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees in this classification are subject to call-in, and therefore, will be required to provide the facility with a telephone number where they can be reached.

2. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
