This is a Position Specific recruitment for Anne Arundel County, Baltimore City and Baltimore County Assessments & Taxation Offices only. The resulting eligible list will be used to fill the above locations only.  Persons interested in future vacancies in the Assessor I, Real Property classification, will need to re-apply.

Main Purpose of Job

An Assessor I, Real Property is the entry level of work performing real property assessments. Employees learn to appraise residential real property at fair market value for use in the calculation of real property taxes. Employees in this classification do not supervise. *Property inspections are required in all weather conditions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: None.

Note: Additional appraisal experience involving the valuation of real property may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Relevant Coursework in Math, Engineering, Business, or Real Estate

Appraisal experience involving the valuation of real property

A license in one of the following: Real Estate Sales License, Real Estate Broker License, or Appraiser License

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

Must be willing to work in Baltimore City, Baltimore County or Anne Arundel County.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees in this classification may be required to have daily use of a motor vehicle while on official State business. Standard mileage allowance will be paid for use of a privately owned vehicle.

2. Upon appointment, persons possessing a real estate broker or sales license, or a license to sell insurance, will be required to put same in an "Inactive" status.

3. Employees are prohibited from participating in any outside activity, including private appraisals, which may be deemed a conflict of interest by the Director of the Department of Assessments and Taxation.

SELECTION PROCESS

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The assessment may consist of rating education, training and experience related to the position.  Therefore, it is important that you provide complete and accurate information on your application.  Please report all experience and education that is related to this position.  The Supplemental questions will be used as part of the rating process.
