This position is located in the Eastern Shore Regional Office of the Developmental Disabilities Administration in Salisbury, Maryland (Wicomico County). 

This Regional Office is located over 2 hours away from Baltimore City.

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of the Regional Forensic Coordinator (Coordinator Special Programs IV, Developmental Disabilities) located in Salisbury, MD, is to provide coordination and assurance of delivery of appropriate services to eligible individuals in the DDA Eastern Shore Region who are court-involved.  This includes assuring timely referral of court-ordered evaluations, requirements related to commitment or co-commitment to Maryland Department of Health (MDH), court-ordered services, diversion service planning, and/or services for any individual in DDA community services who become involved with the courts. This position keeps a database for statistical purposes; coordinates with Office of Court Ordered Admission and when inpatient services and/or conditions of release are needed; provides written reports and/or technical assistance; attends court hearings as needed; and collaborates with other Regional staff concerning individuals involved with either the adult or juvenile courts, LCCs, and other service or interagency affiliations.

Knowledge of Criminal Procedure Title 3, Courts and Judicial Proceedings Title 8, and consultation with the Office of the Attorney General will be necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:    Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in nursing, social work, psychology, education, counseling or a related field.  A copy of your transcript must be attached to the application.

Experience:  Five years of professional experience in health services, two years of which must have been in the option for which application is made.

NOTES:

1. Applicants may substitute a master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a health or human service field for one year of the required general experience.

2. Experience in the option must be as follows: professional work related to the support services and programs for developmentally disabled clients.

3. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in another field plus one additional year of professional experience in health services may be substituted for the specific degree.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Administration classifications or Civil Affairs Specialist specialty codes in the health related field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate should have knowledge of Criminal Procedure Title 3, Courts and Judicial Proceedings Title 8.

Experience working with people with Developmental Disabilities and knowledge and understanding of case management is desirable.  Duties for this position may require travel; therefore, possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license is needed.

Candidates may remain on the certified eligible list for a period of at least one year. The resulting certified eligible list for this recruitment may be used for similar positions in this or other State agencies.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
