Main Purpose of Job

Process all appeals filed with the Handgun Review Board, including setting up files, scheduling cases for hearings and responding to public inquiries. This position serves as the Administrative Aide to the Director of the Board by providing the required support for the operation of the Handgun Review Board.

POSITION DUTIES

Processing appeals filed with the Handgun Review Board from the Maryland State Police.

Scheduling hearings for the Handgun Review Board; attending hearings of the Handgun Review Board, setting up recording equipment for hearings, taking minutes at Hearings and posting them on the Website.

Preparing payroll and mileage reimbursements for Board members.

Prepare monthly reports and end of year data for the Secretary; maintain statistics on Board cases.

Preparing templates for final decision letters.

Responding to questions from the public, State Police, and other agencies.

Preparing record for Appeals from the Board.

Preparing responses to Public Information Act Requests and Open Meetings Act complaints.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Four years performing secretarial work or clerical work involving typing duties.

Notes:

1. Additional secretarial or clerical experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Thirty credit hours with a major in secretarial science or office technology from an accredited college may be substituted at the rate of thirty credits for one year of experience for up to two years of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration classifications or Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Administrative Support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The following qualifications are preferred, not required:

6 months of experience processing appeals filed with a review board.

6 months of experience scheduling hearings for a review board. (Duties to include but not limited to; setting up equipment, taking minutes, and posting notices)

This position is limited to current permanent and contractual employees working within the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Demonstrated ability to accurately type on a keyboard on a personal computer at a minimum of forty words per minute may be required, depending on the specific requirements of the position.
